The people in Pakistan have always looked curious in knowing the annual
and monthly salaries of their political leaders, military men, apex
court judges and other elites of the poor and deprived
society.
The people in Pakistan have seen consistent clash between the executive
and judiciary after PPP came in ruling. Regardless of this conflict,
President Asif Ali Zardari raises the annual salaries and allowances of
the superior court judges by 30 per cent.
After this increase in salary,
Chief Justice
Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry gets an annual salary of Rs8.9
million while the associate justices each takes home over Rs8.7 million.
The details of salaries and allowances of top court judges came in
reply from Law Minister Farooq H. Naek on Friday to a question posed on
the subject by Awami National Party’s (ANP) Haji Adeel.
The monthly salary of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is
Rs724,321 apart from other perks and privileges, which he is receiving
since July 2011.
According to the details produced in Senate, the Chief Justice makes a
salary of Rs448,221, judicial allowances amounting to Rs196,219, a
house rent of Rs68,000 if official residence is not provided and 15 per
cent of the salary as a medical grant.
He also enjoys a chauffeur-driven car with 600 litres petrol monthly,
free medical treatment for his family, a rent free residence with no
electricity, gas, water and other utility bills.
